Merry Christmas

It is to Johan Sebastian Bach that I entrust the task to convey my best wishes for Christmas. His music expresses, better than I ever could, the humble grandeur of the Emmanuel. The Christmas Oratorio, which is a set of cantatas for the Christmas time is superbly played by Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the head of the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir. The set is on YouTube, in 19 sections. I suggest you the first one, but watching it you will have access to all, if you feel like it. Let your ears and heart be filled with joy. We all need it ! Welcome!

The “heedful idiot” is the English version of “Un idiot attentif”, a blog that I started about two years ago. Why did I decide to publish it also in English? One of the main reasons is that more and more visits come from English speaking countries, especially the United-States. And, besides that, because English is the koinê (the universal language) of the globalised world.

Why “idiot”? Simply because Prince Myschkin – The Idiot – is one of my favorite characters, and Dostoevsky one of my favorite writers. And why “heedful”? Because I try to look at things, events, people, books... with opened eyes and being suspicious of the “politically correct”.

That being said, my English speaking readers will notice very quickly that my language ability is quite poor... So, please be indulgent, and don’t hesitate to correct me.
